Blocked Drains Rutherford

Rutherford Plumbing Co clears blocked drains across Rutherford, from a slow kitchen sink to a surcharged sewer or a stormwater pit that will not take another drop. The camera goes down before any clearing and again after, so you see the pipe rather than a guess.

Booking and pricing are simple. One call books it, the plumber prices the clear after seeing the line, and every job carries our 365-day warranty on all work.

Drain work is one arm of what we do. The Rutherford Plumbing Co home page sets out the rest, from hot water systems to gas fitting, leak traces and strata work, with one number for all of it.

Rutherford Drain Services

Every drain job starts with the same two questions: what is down the line, and which line is it. The answer picks the service:

Plumber running a drain camera at an outdoor pit

Camera work on any line

Footage before and after the clear shows the blockage and the condition of the pipe. Every serious drain job starts with a camera inspection.

High-pressure water jetting

A jet blaster cuts grease, sludge and root mass with water alone, no chemicals, and scrubs the pipe wall on the way through. Drain jetting suits lines too far gone for an eel.

Sewer clears

When every fixture in the house gurgles at once, the problem is the sewer, not one tap. Blocked sewer work covers clearing, repair and replacement on your side of the boundary.

Stormwater and overflow drains

Flat ground and summer downpours fill yards and pits fast. The stormwater drains page covers pit clears, surface drains and overflow lines that back up in the wet.

Tree roots exposed around a pipe in a trench

Tree root removal

Roots in old earthenware are the classic blockage on the established streets. Tree root removal cuts them out of the line and deals with the entry point.

Pipe relining equipment set up in a shower recess

Relining instead of digging

A cracked sewer can often take a new sleeve inside the old pipe, no excavation across the lawn. Pipe relining is the fix when clearing alone stops holding.

Why Do Drains Block Twice Here?

Two things about this suburb make blockages common and stubborn:

Old earthenware under mature trees

The established streets carry pre-1980s clay sewers, and the street trees above them have had decades to find every crack. Roots get in, catch debris, and the line fills.

Low ground and a high water table

This is Hunter River country, and groundwater sits close under the surface, seeping into older pipework and surcharging lines that would run free on higher ground.

Storm demand, not just fault

Average annual rainfall figures sit around 808mm with the heaviest falls in the summer months, and a flat suburb has nowhere for that water to hurry. Drains that cope all winter can drown in one February downpour.

A drain that blocks once can be bad luck. A drain that blocks on a schedule has a cause, and the camera run finds it.

What the Old Core Is Laid With

Mid-century clay, new estate PVC

The brick-veneer streets around Cavalry Avenue and the blocks near the older core mostly run clay sewers laid when the houses went up. Clay is rigid, it cracks with ground movement, and every crack is a door for roots.

The newer ground blocks differently

Out through the estates that grew from the 1990s onward, the sewer runs in PVC with tighter junctions, so kitchen grease and flushed wipes cause the blockages there instead.

One suburb, two diagnoses

That split is exactly why the camera goes down first on every job here. The fix for a root-riddled clay line and the fix for a grease-clogged PVC line are different jobs, and guessing between them wastes money.

What Changes the Cost of a Drain Clear?

That matters most on drain work, where the honest answer about the fault only arrives once the camera is in the pipe. Once you approve the price for the clear, the invoice matches it.

"Communication was excellent, the quote was clear, and the work was completed promptly." Lily

What moves the price:

  • Which line it is A kitchen sink, a boundary sewer and a stormwater pit are three different jobs with different gear.
  • What has caused it Grease clears faster than a solid root mass, and a line that needs jetting rather than an eel costs more to run.
  • Access to the pipe A boundary trap under a hatch is quicker to reach than a sewer run under a floor.
  • What happens after the clear Clearing is one price; a reline or a spot repair to stop the blockage returning is quoted as its own job, never slipped in.

What Happens From Your First Call

1. Ring or send the form

Call (02) 4915 2998 or use the form to explain the fault. We ask enough to bring the right equipment the first time.

2. A fixed price first

A plumber inspects the job and names a fixed figure up front. Nothing gets started until you give the go-ahead.

3. Camera, clear, camera again

We jet or eel the blockage clear, then run the camera once more so you see the line empty and know what state it is in.

4. Covered for a year

Every job carries our 365-day warranty on all work. If something we did isn't right, ring the same number.

When we're not the right call

If the camera shows the choke sits in the street sewer beyond your boundary, the water authority maintains that main, so you report it to them with our footage in hand. Floodwater lying over a whole street is one for the SES, and drain flooding inside your home is the emergency plumber run.

Drain Questions Before You Book

Do the older streets here run clay sewer pipes?

Mostly, yes. Homes built before the 1980s carry clay sewer lines, and clay cracks as the ground shifts, which hands roots an opening. A camera run shows within minutes whether your line is clay, PVC or something between, and the newer estate stock blocks on grease and wipes rather than roots.

Why does my drain block again a few months after clearing?

Clearing removes the blockage, not the cause. A cracked clay joint under a mature tree lets roots straight back through the same gap, so the line fills on the same schedule. The footage tells you whether a relining job or a spot repair ends the cycle for good.

Is the stormwater pit in my yard my job or the council's?

Yours, up to the boundary. Pits and pipes inside your property are yours to maintain, and the council-side network takes over past it. On ground this flat, a pit full of silt floods your own yard well before the street system is under strain, so keeping yours clear pays off.

Can you find the blockage without digging up the yard?

Yes. The drain camera and the pipe locator together show the fault and mark its position at the surface. If excavation is ever needed, it happens over the exact spot rather than as a search across the whole lawn.
